In 2008 the Mayor of London commissioned the Green Theatre Guide to raise awareness of the theatre sector's role in addressing climate change. The Guide measured the London theatre sector's carbon footprint and provided recommendations for increased energy efficiency and reduced environmental impact.
The Green Theatre Network is a legacy project of the guide, facilitated by Julie's Bicycle, designed to provide theatre industry professionals with information, support and guidance as to how they can practically address the guide's recommendations.
The network is open to all professionals working in the UK theatre sector, and aims to offer members the opportunity for sharing experience, expertise and best practice around sustainability, and to build a community of interest around making our theatres more sustainable in every way - from building management, to touring productions.
The network meets roughly every quarter, usually around a specific industry issue or general update. Previous meetings have focused on sustainable touring practices and developments in government environmental policy making.
For more information on joining the network, please contact Julie's Bicycle.
